Welcome to Class 2

Class 2 is a mixed class of year 1 and year 2 children (Key Stage One) and is taught by Miss Giddens with support from Mrs D Taylor and Mrs Warner.

What are we learning in Class 2?

Phonics and reading

This year, Class 2 will be learning phonics through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds. They will engage in daily phonics sessions to learn new sounds, tricky words, how to spell and how to apply spelling into sentence writing. Their phonics learning will then translate into their reading learning which is also taught through Little Wandle. Children will work in small groups at their reading level to build decoding, prosody, comprehension and fluency.

What are we reading?

In Class 2 this term we will be reading the books below. These support our reading and writing in addition to our phonics lessons.

Writing Lessons

We will be reading Cave Baby by Julia Donaldson as inspiration for our writing lessons.

Reading Lessons

We will also be reading and discussing There's a Rang-Tan in My Bedroom by James Sellick.

What are we learning in maths?

Class 2 will be engaging in daily maths sessions taught using White Rose Maths and Mastering Number. The children will learn foundational, arithmetic and reasoning skills during their White Rose sessions. They will also engage in Mastering Number four times per week. These sessions enable children to revisit and solidify core maths principles and key facts to enable children to excel in their maths learning.
