What are we learning in Class 1?

Welcome to Fox Class

We are a mixed Nursery and Reception class where every child is valued as a unique individual. Our classroom is full of stories, creativity, exploration and hands-on learning. From outdoor adventures to sharing favourite books and learning through play, we build strong foundations while keeping childhood joyful and full of discovery.

Class One – Autumn Term

A very warm welcome to a new school year in Fox Class! We are so excited to welcome our Nursery and Reception children and begin a busy term full of exploring, playing, discovering and learning together.

During the first few weeks, our main focus will be helping every child to feel happy, safe and confident in their new environment. We will spend lots of time getting to know one another, learning our classroom routines and expectations, exploring our indoor and outdoor provision and developing new friendships.

Our Learning This Term

Our learning this term will be based around the theme: Knowing yourself.

We will explore ourselves, our families and the world around us, encouraging children to talk about their own experiences and what makes each of us unique. As autumn arrives, we will also notice and investigate the changes happening in the natural world around us.

Our learning will be brought to life through stories, play, exploration and practical experiences, with lots of opportunities for children to follow their own interests and develop their ideas through our continuous provision.

Literacy & Phonics

Stories are at the heart of our learning in Fox Class. This term, we will enjoy a range of exciting books which will inspire lots of talking, imaginative play, drawing and early writing.

As part of our school's English curriculum we will be enjoying our new Story Saplings.

This will support our EYFS vision of learning through play while also supporting our children to develop their imagination, oracy and written skills.

Little Wandle Phonics

Our Reception children will begin their Little Wandle phonics journey, learning new sounds and beginning to use these to read and write words.

Our Nursery children will take part in Little Wandle Foundations for Phonics, developing the listening, attention and language skills that provide the foundations for later reading and writing.

Mathematics

Maths in Fox Class is practical, playful and everywhere!

Children will develop their understanding of numbers through songs, stories, games and hands-on experiences. We will explore counting, comparing quantities, patterns, shapes and mathematical language, with plenty of opportunities to investigate maths throughout our classroom and outdoor environment.

Learning through play

A huge part of learning in the Early Years happens through purposeful play.

Children will have lots of time each day to explore our indoor and outdoor learning environments. Whether they are building in the construction area, creating masterpieces, investigating the natural world, sharing stories, role-playing, experimenting with water or solving problems together, they will be developing important knowledge and skills.

Our adults will join children in their play to model language, introduce new ideas, ask questions and help them to take their learning further.

Personal, Social & Emotional Development

This term is particularly important for building relationships and developing confidence.

We will support children to become increasingly independent, recognise and talk about their feelings, build positive relationships, learn to work together and become confident members of our Fox Class family.

We celebrate the fact that every child is different and encourage our children to be curious, kind, resilient and proud of who they are.

We Can't Wait to Get Started!

We are looking forward to a wonderful Autumn term filled with new friendships, exciting discoveries and lots of memorable learning experiences.
